Microsoft Outlook Express v6.0x (inc. with IE v6.0x)

Microsoft Outlook Express is the Email and Usenet News reader included with the Internet Explorer v6.0x package of software from Microsoft.

The following assumes that Outlook Express (and Internet Explorer v6.0x) have been installed correctly. This document was written using the 6.0.2600.0000 version of Outlook Express, and, unless noted, will be applicable to all version of Outlook Express as released in the Internet Explorer v6.0x package.

Configuring Outlook Express For Email

Two manners of email configuration are given below: creating a new email configuration (used when you first set up your email account) and modifying an existing email configuration.

I. Creating A New Email Configuration
  1. Select Tools >> Accounts


  2. Select Add >> Mail


  3. Enter: Display Name: (your name). Hit Next.


  4. Select I already have an email address that I'd like to use.
    Enter: Email address: (your login)@wydebeam.com
    Hit Next.


  5. Enter: My incoming mail server is a [POP3] server

    Incoming mail (POP3 or IMAP) server: mail.wydebeam.com
    Outgoing mail (SMTP) server:
    mail.wydebeam.com

    Hit Next.


  6. Enter: Account name: (your login)
    Password: (your password)
    Check Remember Password
    Hit Next.


  7. Hit Finish.


II. Modifying An Existing Email Configuration
  1. Select Tools >> Accounts


  2. Highlight the email account you want to modify and hit the Properties button.


  3. Under General tab, enter:
    Mail Account: mail.wydebeam.com
    User Information
    Name: (your name)
    Organization: (your organization, if applicable)
    Email address: (your login)@wydebeam.com
    Reply address: [leave blank]
    [x] Include this account when receiving mail or synchronizing


  4. Under Servers tab, enter:
    Server information
    My incoming mail server is a [POP3] server

    Incoming mail (POP3): mail.wydebeam.com
    Outgoing mail (SMTP): mail.wydebeam.com

    Incoming Mail Server
    Account name: (your login)
    Password: (your password)
    [x] Remember password
    [ ] Log on using Secure Password Authentication
    Outgoing Mail Server
    [ ] My server requires authentication
    Hit OK.


  5. Hit Close to close the Accounts window.
